The Influence of Growing Factors and Plant Cultivation Methods on Biomass and Fibre Yield as Well as on Fibre Quality of Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.)

Pages 1-14 | Published online: 05 Oct 2008

Abstract

After the reintroduction of fibre hemp in Germany (1996) many questions about hemp cultivation occurred. So the first aim of this work was to establish guidelines for agricultural methods to produce high amounts of biomass and fibre of hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). For that three different field experiments on two different locations in Germany were carried out in the years 1996 to 2000. The second aim of the work was to get more information about the structure of the fibre cells and a possible influence of the agronomic procedures to the fibre cell structure. For that a lot of cuts across the stem diameter in the middle of the stems were made and after fixation the amounts of the different cell layers as well as the area of the primary fibre cells and their cell wall were measured.
