Abstract
The process of developing an academic marriage and family therapy program which meets accepted standards is not without costs and does not always make a completely positive or constructive impact on the programs or the people tnvolved. Using a structural framework, this paper describes a number of problems which marriage and family therapy programs may encounter during program development. Preventive measures addressing negative consequences which may occur during program development, along with suggested interventions for academic systems suffering from negative impact, are also included.
