Pages 1-16 | Published online: 02 Feb 2015

Abstract

The emergence of managed care over the past decade has had a dramatic effect on the delivery of health care to most Americans. The case of stroke care and rehabilitation, which involves the full spectrum of health care services, provides a particularly useful lens through which the promise and risks associated with managed care can be examined. An analysis of recent developments in the health insurance industry is provided, and the effects of these developments on the full spectrum of stroke rehabilitation services are discussed.
