Abstract

Neuropsychiatric disturbances such as depression and psychosis occur in 50% of patients diagnosed with vascular dementia (VaD). Managing behavioral problems in older adults with dementia constitutes a clinical challenge. This article is based on a literature review of treatments available for these patients, presenting general considerations in the management of neuropsychiatric symptoms and the use of newer antipsychotic and antidepressant medications in older adults with VaD.
