Goal Planning in Stroke Rehabilitation: What?

Pages 8-15 | Published online: 02 Feb 2015

Abstract

Goal planning refers to the process of setting goals in rehabilitation. Goals may be set in the near, mid, or distant future. As in management jargon, rehabilitation has developed a jargon but it varies from place to place. The terminology used needs to be consistent. The main concepts, relatively new within clinical practice, are those of aims, objectives, and targets, and these three concepts can be distinguished in three ways: by the extent of foreseeability and predictability; by the time involved; and by the level at which each is set. All three words refer to goals.
