Recent Progress of a Surface Exfoliation Mechanism Under Ion Bombardment

Pages 483-490 | Published online: 11 Aug 2017

ABSTRACT

Recent progress in the mechanical aspects of the surface exfoliation process under high-energy ion bombardments, including both blistering and flaking, is described in relation to a modern understanding of a fracture process for ductile materials. The model is based on a pressure-driven mechanism, quantitatively explaining the experimental results of blistering.
