Pages 2029-2035 | Published online: 10 Aug 2017

Abstract

This paper reports on a safety and environmental assessment performed to support the Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) reactor design study that is being developed for the DOE. Power plants based on a KrF laser driver (Prometheus-L), as well as on a heavy ion, linac driver (Prometheus-H) are evaluated. Safety and environmental study results are discussed to illustrate factors which influenced design point selection and features, and highlight technology development areas identified by the study.
