Abstract

Tinnitus is a significant problem for otolaryngologists and one of the greatest problems facing a patient, precisely for its subjective aspects,is the lack of understanding and the uncertainty created by often erratic rationale and dubious medical approache. It affects 10 - 20% of the general population and may be a significant problem for about 4% of sufferers. For years countless approaches to tinnitus have been proposed. During the last few years rapid progress has been made in the tinnitus field, providing better insight into the potential mechanisms of tinnitus generation, perception and ways of treatment.
