Palladium-substituted bacteriochlorophylls for photodynamic therapy

Pages 1943-1945 | Published online: 25 Feb 2005

Abstract

This patent concerns the preparation of a series of palladium substituted bacteriochlorophyll derivatives as photosensitisers (PSs) and their potential use in the field of photodynamic therapy. Remarkably, the proposed compounds present a substituent capable of allowing an efficient plasma transfer and good cell membrane penetration. A number of interesting in vitro and in vivo biological actions of the principal compound Pd- bacteriopheophorbide are described. This patent contributes to the repertoire of compounds with potential application in photodynamic therapy (PDT).
