Benzamide derivatives of aspartic acid as novel caspase inhibitors

Pages 897-899 | Published online: 25 Feb 2005

Abstract

A series of benzamide derivatives of aspartic acid, pharmaceutical compositions comprising them and their use for inhibiting cell death, are claimed. The application claims substituted 2-aminobenzamides such as 2-amino derivatives of saturated or unsaturated, carbocyclic or heterocyclic carboxamide derivatives. Exemplified amide compounds are benzoyl, thienyl, cyclohexyl and cyclopentanyl derivatives. The compounds are claimed to be useful where cell death is due to trauma, viral infection, neurodegenerative disorder, cardiovascular disease, immune deficiency disorder, autoimmune disorder, renal disease, radiation, myelodysplatic syndromes or pancreatitis. The compounds are disclosed to be caspase inhibitors and/or to reduce IL-1β production.
