Nod2 nucleic acids and proteins

Pages 111-114 | Published online: 02 Mar 2005

Abstract

Crohn’s disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the bowel strongly associated with Western lifestyles and diet. Recently, mutations in Nod2, an intracellular protein involved in apoptosis and responses to bacterial lipopolysaccharide, have been associated with CD, suggesting that this protein has a major role to play in the cause of this disease. This patent is based on initial work on the discovery of this protein from screening of public databases, knowledge of related proteins and studies of Nod2. It covers the application and knowledge related to the full and partial nucleic acid and protein sequences of Nod2, including detection, creation and use of all possible natural occurring and created variants.
