Page 1690 | Published online: 02 Mar 2011

Summary

Novelty: A neuronal cholinergic differentiation factor (NCDF) is claimed along with its therapeutic and diagnostic uses. Also claimed are derivatives, analogues and fragments of NCDF, as well as anti-NCDF antibodies. The NCDF protein is present in extracts of mammalian sweat glands. NCDF may be useful in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders associated with cholinergic neurone dysfunction.

Biology: NCDF protein can be used to induce cholinergic activity in neurones, this protein has the ability to increase the expression of choline acetyl transferase and vasoactive intestinal peptide by sympathetic neurons.
