Summary

Novelty: Novel imidazo[1,2-b][2]benzazepine and pyrimido[1,2-b][2] benzazepine derivatives, which are said to exhibit antiarrhythmic activity, are disclosed. The compounds may be useful for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmia.

Biology: Antiarrhythmic activity was demonstrated in the male Duncan-Hartley guinea pig model. The specified compound showed an ED₅₀ of 2.0 mg/kg.

Chemistry: The syntheses of eight compounds, using standard methods, are described. 1,2,3,5,6,11-Hexahydro-11-phenyl pyrimido[1,2-b][2]benzazepine is one of three specifically claimed compounds.
