Summary
Novelty: Novel nucleoside compounds and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts are disclosed and are said to be antiviral and immunosuppressive agents. These compounds may be particularly useful for the prevention and treatment of infection by retroviruses, including HIV.
Biology: The anti-inflammatory and anti-HIV action of the compounds was evaluated by inhibition of carrageenan-induced inflammatory cell migration in the rat pleural cavity and from a HIV inhibition assay.
Chemistry: The syntheses of the compounds are described in four reaction schemes. Twenty-nine examples are given. All compounds were prepared by conventional methods.
