Pages 1803-1804 | Published online: 03 Mar 2008

Patent Summary

Amino or non-quaternized aminoalkyl thioether compounds are claimed for the treatment of Pneumocystis carinii infections and for preventing the formation of cysts formed in the lungs of immuno compromised patients infected with Pneumocystis carinii. The specified compound gave MIC values between 0.125 - 0.5 μg/ml against six Candida strains. In vivo, using Candida albicans infected mice, the compound gave 99% reduction of recoverable Candida colony forming units at 0.4 mg/kg (ip) twice daily for four days. The prevention or reduction of cysts from the lungs of PCP-infected immunosuppressed rats is described. Only one compound is specifically claimed. Two others are exemplified.
