Summary

Novelty: Novel carbapenems are claimed to be antibacterial agents. These compounds are stated to exhibit low seizure potential.

Biology: In an intracisternal assay two compounds gave ED₅₀ (50% seizure rate) values of 100μg/head.

Chemistry: Extensive preparative details are provided. Three compounds are claimed including 7-oxo-6-(1-hydroxyethyl-2-3-cyano-5[4/-(3-methyl-1-imidazoliummethyl)phenyl]carba-penem-3-carboxylate.
