Ribozymes for cleavage of multi-drug resistance transporter protein P-glycoprotein

Page 977 | Published online: 03 Mar 2008

Abstract

A ribozyme is claimed whch is specifically designed to cleave the multi-drug-resistance protein called the P-glycoprotein, which is present in many cancer cells. This protein actively exports toxic anticancer drugs out of cells and is commonly over produced in many drug resistant tumours. The ribozyme claimed here would be given along with the therapeutic drug or given before the drug regime, in order to sensitise the cancer cells.
