Abstract
The serine protease thrombin plays a critical role in haemostasis and thrombosis. This patent from Eli Lilly & Co. describes diamine derivatives that are potent thrombin inhibitors. These compounds are claimed to possess antithrombotic or anticoagulant activity and as such have potential application in the prophylaxis or treatment of thromboembolic disorders such as venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, arterial thrombosis, general and local hypercoagulable states, and generalised tissue injury as it relates to the inflammatory process.
