Abstract

We, the Editors and Publisher of Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, have retracted the following article:

Jun Iwamoto MD PhD, Tsuyoshi Takeda MD & Yoshihiro Sato MD. Effects of antifracture drugs in postmenopausal, male and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis – usefulness of alendronate and risedronate, Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy 2007;8:2743-2756, doi: 10.1517/14656566.8.16.2743. Published online: 24 Oct 2007

After publication, it has been determined that this review article contains significant overlap with the following previously published articles:

Jun Iwamoto, Tsuyoshi Takeda and Yoshihiro Sato, 2006, Efficacy and safety of alendronate and risedronate for postmenopausal osteoporosis, 22 (5), Current Medical Research and Opinion, 919-928. Link: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1185/030079906X100276

Jun Iwamoto, Tsuyoshi Takeda and Yoshihiro Sato, 2005, Prevention and Treatment of Corticosteroid-Induced Osteoporosis, Yonsei Medical Journal, 46 (4), 456-463. Link: https://synapse.koreamed.org/DOIx.php?id=10.3349/ymj.2005.46.4.456

Neither of the aforementioned articles were cited in the text in the Expert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy article despite significant overlap, the text instead being referenced to other sources. This could be misleading to the reader as being original. Our efforts to contact Y Sato’s institution and his co-author J Iwamoto have not resulted in any responses.

We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retractions.

The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as “Retracted”.
