Abstract
Narciclasine (NCS) from mucilage of Narcissus tazetta L. bulbs was found to inhibit the accumulation of d-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a key precursor of chlorophyll, in detached leaves from etiolated wheat seedlings and cucumber cotyledons. The inhibitory effects of NCS on ALA formation were concentration-dependent. Benzyladenine (6-BA) partly reversed the inhibitory effects by NCS, while the synthesis of ALA was increased when the plants were treated simultaneously with both NCS and abscisic acid (ABA).
