Water Temperature Reduction in Shortened Spring Channels of Southwestern Wisconsin Trout Streams

Abstract

Late afternoon summer water temperatures at the mouth of a spring channel on a trout stream near La Crosse in southwestern Wisconsin were reduced by 10° to 11° F. by shortening the channel by 67 percent and routing the water through a willow-shaded location.
