Abstract
We compared healing rates of incisions closed with sutures or a cyanoacrylate adhesive to determine the suitability of adhesive in closing incisions in black crappies Pomoxis nigromaculatus used in telemetry studies. Postoperative survival of test fish and control fish was 100% over the course of the experiment. Use of adhesive reduced surgery time by 38% but sutured incisions healed faster. Within 21 d postsurgery, 70% of fish implanted with dummy transmitters lost transmitters through incisions closed with adhesive.
