Depression and quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease

Abstract

Depression has been shown to be a risk factor for the development of coronary artery disease, morbidity and mortality after onset of coronary disease. This article reviews recent studies investigating these links and discusses the impact of depression on quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease. Recent trials of psycho- and pharmacotherapy in this population are discussed, along with the impact of treatment on prognosis and quality of life.
