Abstract

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common and devastating neurodegenerative disease. The incidence of AD is increasing in Western societies. The current treatment of AD is mostly symptomatic and ineffective in stopping or reversing the cognitive impairment. One of the exciting and effective new treatments developed in experimental AD is immunization against amyloid-β peptide. This article provides an overview of immunization therapy in AD and examines the future prospects of this therapeutic modality.
