Abstract

Over the last few years, one of the major highlights in phototherapy is demonstrating the effects of UV-induced immunosuppression, which have led to greater understanding of the mechanisms and principles of photoimmunology and its therapeutic relevance. Various types of phototherapy have been used in the treatment of different dermatologic conditions. The aim of this review is to provide an update on the immunology of narrowband UVB phototherapy, high-dose UVA1 therapy, photochemotherapy, which includes psoralen plus UVA and extracorporeal photopheresis, and photodynamic therapy.
