Abstract

Zhang Y, Zhang L-J, Dang Y-W, Li S-H, Yan H-B, Chen G. Clinical significance and effect of MTDH/AEG-I in bladder urothelial cancer: a study based on immunohistochemistry, RNA-seq, and in vitro verification. Cancer ManagRes. 2018;10:6921–6936.

At the request of the authors, the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Cancer Management and Research wish to retract the published article.

Following a review of their experimental data the authors found they had inadvertently duplicated the Hoechst 33342 and propidium iodide (PI) images presented in Figure 11 of the published article, from Figure 11 of their liver cancer study:

The essential role of MTDH in the progression of HCC: a study with immunohistochemistry, TCGA, meta-analysis and in vitro investigation. He R, Gao L, Ma J, et al. Am J Transl Res 2017;9(4):1561–1579. http://www.ajtr.org/files/ajtr0043681.pdf.

The authors discovered the Hoechst 33342 and PI images for their bladder cancer study had been overwritten by files from their liver cancer study and they failed to notice the error because both studies used the same MTDH gene and many files shared the same name.

The Editor determined the results and findings of the article were no longer valid and advised a retraction was the only course of action, as agreed to by the authors.

The authors wish to apologise for this error.

Our decision-making was informed by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retraction.

The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as “Retracted”.
