Abstract
The valve structure and morphological variation of Parlibellus pandunformis sp. nov. (Bacillariophyta) from a hypersaline lagoon at Shark Bay of the Indian Ocean, west coast of Australia, are described. This diatom has been found living in algal mats associated with stromatolites and sublittoral sediments. The panduriform shape and the structure of the striae and interstriae separate this diatom from the other species of Parlibellus. The ecology of the species and its relationship with other members of this genus are discussed.
