Abstract
Synopsis: A practical handbook covering the state of the knowledge in the diagnosisand management of lipid disorders using multiple levels of evidence. Although no two chapters have been written by the same person, the book reads as a very uniform short treatise, proof of the strong direction provided by the editors to the contributing authors. All major areas of clinical lipidology are included, ranging from nutritional interventions to management of dyslipidemia in children, from the value of raising HDL to the importance of controlling triglyceride levels both in patients with genetic dyslipidemia and in those with the metabolic syndrome, from guidelinebased statin use to problems with statins such as drug interactions and side effects. The book opens with an essential chapter from Daniel Steinberg on levels of evidence in clinical medicine and their utility in diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making
