Abstract

Evaluation of: Balin M, Celik A, Kobat MA. Circulating soluble lectin-like oxidized low-density lipoprotein receptor.1 levels are associated with proximal/middle segment of the LAD lesions in patients with stable coronary artery disease. Clin. Res. Cardiol. 101(4), 247.253 (2011). In search of developing therapeutic agents to attenuate the process of atherogenesis and finding a novel biomarker of coronary artery disease, the study of soluble LOX-1 (s-LOX-1) has gained a great attention. The contributory role of LOX.1 in atherogenesis is now supported by several lines of evidence. In this context, a recent paper by Balin et al. presents new information on the possible role of s-LOX-1 in the identification of proximal/middle segment left anterior descending lesions. We have attempted to summarize the role of s-LOX-1 in atherosclerotic coronary artery disease and discuss the impact of the aforementioned paper in current arena of research on s-LOX-1.
