Abstract

The Mexico City Cathedral is undergoing major rehabilitation aimed at correcting a significant portion of its differential settlements, which had reached 2.4 m at the end of 1991. Relevant structural investigations are briefly described in this paper, including the assessment of safety under vertical loads, differential settlements and seismic actions. The extensive structural monitoring systems are described. Results of laboratory and in situ tests of the structural materials, dynamic responses and the state of stresses are briefly presented, as are aspects of the rehabilitation process.
