Abstract
Before Marx, materialism dealt with the problem of knowledge from a point of view that was alienated from the social nature and the historical development of man. Therefore, it failed to understand the dependence of knowledge on practice in social practice; i.e., it failed to understand the dependence of knowledge on production and the class struggle.
