The One-sided Pursuit of Higher Rates of Promotion and Competition in Examinations

Pages 99-120 | Published online: 20 Dec 2014

Abstract

The phenomenon of one-sided pursuit of higher rates of student promotion to a higher level of education emerged in the early 1960s. Under the influence of a "Leftist" line, its pernicious consequences were all blamed on the higher education entrance examination. The "Cultural Revolution," for one, presumably took the abolition of the entrance examination as its "breakthrough point." And yet, history has proven that it was wrong to abolish the entrance examination for higher education.
