The Returning Scholars

Abstract

During the period from 1978 to 1986 Qinghua sent in succession 597 of its faculty members to study in twenty countries and territories. Of these, 367 have now returned to China and 36 have received doctoral degrees. The returned scholars have put their ability to good use in this well-known university and have made outstanding achievements. Forty-one have been promoted to full professor, 146 to associate professor, and 56 assigned to leadership positions of the university and at the department, division, and institute levels. They are the backbone force for the teaching and research work of the university, and they will forge its future.
