Abstract
Beijing University is a comprehensive liberal arts and science university established on the basis of traditional Chinese learning (including classical Chinese philosophy, Chinese language and literature, and history) and developed through the introduction of Western scientific education. Its founding in 1898 marked the beginning of modern higher education in China.
