Abstract
Buddhists, like all other people on the Chinese mainland, must center their entire lives around the political objectives of the Communist authorities. In principle, they must accept Communist leadership and follow the path prescribed by the Communists. In practical life, they must participate in all sorts of "study" activities especially organized for Buddhists, as well as the various political campaigns conducted by the Communists. To sum up, Buddhists likewise must join in the great political melting pot set up by the Communists and must assume the political coloring which the Communists impart to the people of the entire country, even though it be inconsistent with Buddhistic tenets. Various representative materials illustrating this state of affairs are presented in the following extracts.
