Abstract

As soon as July 1 People's Commune was born, it demonstrated a strong vitality. Nevertheless, this newborn thing still had to be consolidated and perfected through continuous struggle. Right after July 1 Commune was established, there did not exist and could not exist ready-made rules. They lacked even more experience in running a commune. A host of new problems awaited solutions: for example, Which level was most suitable as a basis for the ownership of the means of production? Which was the best way to distribute profits? What should be the size of the commune, of the brigades? How should the relationship between commune and brigades be handled? Following Chairman Mao's teaching, and full of confidence, the broad peasant masses and cadres who themselves had created the people's commune on the large area of July 1 District had to gather experience through the practical struggle and to nurture their creation of a limitless future and make it grow and become strong.
