Abstract

When a dissertation is rescued from obscurity seventy years after its acceptance and initial publication, the prospective readers are entitled to a few good reasons why they should take an interest in it and why the translator spent so much time and effort on making it available to them. A brief description of the work and its author is therefore in order.
