Abstract
Chen Changben (Vice minister of the Ministry of Culture): Our television dramas should contain national characteristics, mass characteristics, and should reflect the characteristics of the times. So, at the time, we decided to write a story expressing the happiness, anger, grief, and joys of ordinary Chinese people. We used a method the audience accepted easily, making sure the content and form were thoroughly Chinese, and that everyone, from high-class intellectuals to ordinary people, could enjoy it. Although what we wrote was domestic trivia, it also reflected a history of our times, as well as the beauty contained within our souls.
