Abstract
Prècis: This article investigates and analyzes one type of migrant population in Guangzhou—odd-job workers from other places. It first describes life in a hamlet where such workers congregate, then it analyzes data obtained through a questionnaire that reflect the basic situation of these laborers, and finally it analyzes some related issues. The article's basic view is that such workers satisfy a need in urban development; they constitute an indispensable supplemental part of the urban economic system and make an important contribution to urban development. Unfair attitudes toward these workers should be corrected and social problems related to them should be appropriately handled.
