Abstract
Between April 10 and 14, 1998, with spring very much in the air, the National Symposium on Family Eldercare and Socialized Eldercare Services was jointly convened by the China Old-Age Association and the China Gerontology Society in the city of Xiamen. There were enthusiastic and full discussions at the symposium; exchanges led to argument, which in turn brought about improvement. In the course of vivid and lively debates, the participants sought common ground on major issues and left aside minor differences. We now present for the edification of our readers some of the main viewpoints offered at the symposium.
