Abstract

The three essays translated in this issue of Chinese Studies in Philosophy come from the pen of one of contemporary China's most obscure philosophers. His train of thought is certainly a challenge to follow in Chinese, and in English he reads like Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel on steroids. But we ask our readers not to despair. If you rely on your index finger to keep track of the meta-arguments and strong coffee to keep you alert to the hidden pitfalls in the subclauses, you will find on these pages some genuine philosophy. There is more behind Zhang Zhiyang's obscurity than simply more obscurity.
