Epilogue: Dramatic Changes are Unlikely in China

Abstract

One of the most controversial women intellectuals in China, Dai Qing is not unique simply because of her particular family background, nor even because of the shocking works she has produced as an independent journalist. It is, instead, because she is someone who neither the Beijing regime, liberal intellectuals, nor democratic elements can characterize in one word—this despite the fact that she occasionally plays a role that links together all these characteristics.
