A Storm in the Second Plenary Session: Rectification or Anti-Spiritual Pollution?

Pages 44-50 | Published online: 18 Dec 2014

Abstract

During this period there was a struggle taking place behind the scenes. Hu Qiaomu and Deng Liqun were trying to reorganize the People's Daily and to negate my work, but this turned out not to be so easy. The opinion of the members of the Central Secretariat regarding this matter was not unanimous and Hu Yaobang tried to shelve the plan. He was about to go abroad to visit Romania; he said that he would talk with me on his return, but in fact he never did.
