Abstract
The answer to that question has been thoughtfully conceptualized among Europeans as well as Americans during the past one hundred years. Different proposals have been put forth, each with its own rationale. Several concerns emerge that continue to guide public and private dialogue in search of appropriate goals, means, and settings for the education of girls as they move into womanhood.
