Abstract
"After World War II and the defeat of Fascism, the Czechoslovak Republic was restored. Her democratic development, however, was broken by a communist putsch in 1948."1 Several changes in education followed. "Their characteristic mark was a staunch effort to fashion a uniform school subordinated to communist ideology and central control."2 "… Education in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) was centrally administered and strictly directed in accordance with Socialist Unity Party (SED) ideology, steered by party functionaries. The extent to which schools and universities were infiltrated by the State Security Service (Stasi) has only recently become completely apparent."3
