Abstract
The numerous articles on intercultural education that have been written since the late seventies in the Federal Republic may be viewed as a debate on self-conception by those active in this area, above all as researchers. We shall explore three aspects of this discussion: —First, the debate on intercultural education as opposed to a pedagogy centered on foreign pupils-a controversy that began in the late seventies and early eighties and is still relevant; indeed, since the mid-eighties, intercultural education and its program have also come under the cross-fire of criticism.
