Abstract
In recent years the party and government have carried out a number of extremely important measures aimed at the further reinforcement of socialist legality, the uprooting of crimes and other antisocial phenomena, and improvement in the work of the courts, the procuracy, and the militia. New USSR and republic-wide legislation has been adopted. Broad strata of the working people are being involved more and more actively in the protection of public order. At present more than 130,000 volunteer public-order squads [druzhiny] and over 200,000 comrades' courts exist throughout the country, incorporating several million civic-minded citizens. The work being done to carry out the decisions of the June (1963) Plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU on ideological questions is exercising an enormous influence in raising the level of legal education of the working people.
