Chapter 4: Psychiatric Expert Examination of Convicts, Witnesses, and Victims

Pages 70-85 | Published online: 19 Dec 2014

Abstract

For persons who have been convicted of a crime and are serving a prison sentence, the need for a psychiatric examination arises when the court must decide on early release because of mental disease or when a court judgment must be reviewed because of newly discovered circumstances relative to the mental soundness of the prisoner at the time the crime was committed.
