The Army and Society in a Young State

Pages 3-21 | Published online: 08 Dec 2014

Abstract

The role of the army in Asian and African countries is one of the sociopolitical problems that have recently attracted the close scrutiny of researchers. An abundant literature published abroad and the first writings of Soviet scholars persuade us that a point of view has already taken basic shape, and that concepts and models have been created that reflect various aspects of the process under way in young states, whereby the army and officer corps are drawn into sociopolitical life.
