Pages 51-65 | Published online: 08 Dec 2014

Abstract

Processes of urbanization in our country have become widespread during the modern stage of the revolution in science and technology as a result of progress in the production of goods and services. (1) Under the conditions of socialist society, urbanization actively advances economic and social progress and creates the preconditions for comprehensive and optimal development of the personality. The large city offers diverse cultural values and current information for development of the individual and broad opportunities for choice of occupation, jobs, and leisure; and it provides potential for changing the stereotype of one's activity (which is extremely important under the conditions of the intense and monotonous character of certain types of modern work), etc. The urban environment is a powerful catalyst in bringing about universal contact among people.
